Celebrate Canadian Doughnut Day

Every holiday needs a beginning. In the United States, National Doughnut Day is a time-honoured tradition dating back to 1938. It was created to honour the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I and continues to be popular due to the awesomeness of doughnuts.
Canadian National Doughnut Day has no such gloried past. Observed on the second Friday in June, Canadian National Doughnut Day is designed to give Canadians, jealous of the American holiday, a chance to celebrate our own history of cakey goodness.
Doughnut Fun Facts:
- Famous Saturday Night Live actor John Belushi set world records at the Olympic Summer Games fueled by Mini Chocolate Doughnuts (universally recognized as the Doughnuts of Champions)
- Doughnuts are known all over as one of the world's most wheel-shaped snacks.
- A Tim Bit is also known as a Doughnut Hole, Country Bit, or Munchkin
- The actual spelling of the snack is "doughnut". The "donut" spelling is more popular in American English and was made ubiquitous by Dunkin' Donuts in the late 20th century. More info here.
- On American Doughnut Day, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts celebrated by giving away free doughnuts to everyone. Dunkin' Donuts gave away free doughnuts with purchase of coffee. No word on what Tim's did.
